An ultrasound report may be defined as the recording and interpretation of observations from an ultrasound examination. The report should address the clinical question and generally pertain to the reason for referral. The report should be conclusive where possible, indicating when the appearances are consistent with a specific diagnosis.
Where no conclusion is possible alternative explanations for the ultrasound appearances may be offered. Any limitations should be stated and, if a relevant organ has not been fully examined, the reason s should be indicated. It may be appropriate, depending on local practice, to suggest further investigations which may clarify the diagnosis.
